The Noun Project

October 17, 2012 by mak in Tech

It's time to give up on those French lessons and open your eyes to The Noun Project (Free / $2).  Simply put, the Noun Project is a platform enabling the web community to build a visual language database in hopes of unifying the world with a language that everyone can understand. The project was Inspired by cave painting, essentially the oldest language on earth. One symbol for each word allowing anyone, in any language, anywhere to communicate. All the symbols are free as long as you attribute the designer, if not, you can buy the icon for $1.99 royalty-free.

The best gets better; the GoPro Hero3 Black Edition ($399) is 30% thinner, 20% lighter, 2X Faster and packed with the features that will help you capture your epic adventures. The new WiFi enabled unit shoots vido at a whopping 2.7kp at 30fps and 1440p at 48fps. Feel like shooting video Phantom Flex style? The Hero3 also shoots 1080 at 60fps, 960p at 100fps, and 720p at 120fps. The Black Edition is able to shoot 12MB photos at 30fps while boosting low light performance. An updated, 6-element aspherical lens improves sharpness, distortion, and provides the ability to shoot ultra wide. Better audio, underwater shooting, and a complimentary wifi remote... No wonder this little beat is already backordered by a month. Two other models are also available, the White Edition ($199) and Silver Edition ($299) along with a slew of new accessories.

Formlabs Form 1

September 28, 2012 by dit in Gear, Tech

The day of accessible digital fabrication has truly arrived. No longer are designers, engineers, and creators at the mercy of expensive and complex equipment.  The Form 1 (~$3000) developed by Formlabs delivers just this - professional quality 3D printing at a real world price point. Consumer grade 3D printers have been on the market for awhile now, but the Form 1 is leagues ahead of the others. What sets it apart from the competition is its ease of use and the fact that the Form 1 uses stereolithography (SL) printing technology to produce much more detailed and accurate objects.
